Alistair Sutherland (1938 - 2016)
Alistair Sutherland began practising T'ai Chi Ch'uan and other Chinese Internal Arts in 1989. His early interest was stimulated by the Taoist Tai Chi Society where he studied under master Moy Lin Shin.

Although he reached Continuing Instructor status within the organisation, he wished to expand his knowledge and ability by studying other styles of T'ai Chi and in particular the martial aspects of the art. As this is an aspect not encouraged by the Taoist T'ai Chi Society, he left the organisation.

So began a new phase in a training journey that was to lead him to study with Master Lam Kam Chuen. He studied with Shelagh Grandpierre, one of the UK's foremost teachers of traditional Yang Family T'ai Chi Ch'uan as taught by Yang Zhen Ji.

As well as T'ai Chi Ch'uan, Alistair also studied Traditional Yang Family Sword and Sabre. He also studied Zhan Zhuang and Yi Chuan. He taught a variety of Qigong forms including Tai Chi Ruler and Harmony of the Five Elements.

He was an Advanced Level 3 Instructor on the Register of Exercise Professionals and a Grade "A" Instructor with the T'ai Chi Union for Great Britain.
